Pretty, Posh, Oh My Gosh! Review Porter and InStyle

← Previous Post Next Post →

Hello! We are Felicity and Lauren, two twenty-something British-born women who met six years ago at Loughborough University. After graduating and amidst full-time work, we were united by a shared love of fashion, beauty and bargain hunting. From this joint love, our blog Pretty, Posh, Oh My Gosh! was born.

We enjoy reading a huge array of magazines; from the weekly celebrity magazines - great to catch up on quick fire trends and see the latest in celeb fashion inspiration, to the monthly glossies which we rely on for what's hot right now in lifestyle, beauty and fashion.

Today we take a look at Porter and InStyle available on subscription from magazine.co.uk and delivered to your door - perfect for some me-time! Now all you have to do is put the kettle on and find the right biscuits to munch on with your read...

Porter: Winter Escape 2014

Cover star Cate Blanchett sets the scene for this suitably wintry issue and her stunning, ethereal shoot graces the middle pages. An interview with Cate reveals how she deals with stardom, her fantastic connections within the fashion industry become apparent (Sarah Burton and Giorgio Armani are key contacts!) and her voice is really clear throughout the riveting read! This, paired with a fun and fancy-free series of photographs, is the perfect centrepiece for the issue.

Surrounding this is the 'art of style'- a roundup of key trends and how influencers wear them, including the very stunning Lizzy Jagger in denim flares and a bright boho top - perfect inspiration for looking at the stars and using it as a springboard for defining your own interpretation of seasonal trends.

The Fashion Memo pages provide the perfect step to round up trends of the season including The Peasant Dress and Wedges. The photography is aspirational- not just to us as bloggers but to all fashion lovers out there with stunning spreads bringing the trends to life.

One of the most interesting reads was the interview with Cathy Horan who ditched her job as fashion critic at the New York Times. Giving up a top dog job in order to find her happiness and inner peace is well reflected in this thoughtful and well-executed interview. The piece is full of nuggets of 'wellbeing gold' and left us hunting for more background on her incredible life - autobiography please!

InStyle: February 2015

InStyle is one of our monthly go-to publications to catch up on trends and to find out where to buy key pieces.

This month, a huge draw was the awards season special which showcased some of the previous years' dresses - think Lupita Nyong'o in the flowing blue Prada gown and Jennifer Lawrence in THAT Dior Couture number. As a film buff, Lauren loved this issue- it definitely got us excited for the impending red carpet glamour season!

Naomi Watts features in the middle page spreads, with lots of our favourite hue, Spring- blue. Her new film Birdman is out this month and we are huge fans of Naomi since her recent portrayal of the Princess of Wales in Diana.

We always find magazines provide the perfect inspiration for beautiful make-up looks- and the pink and red spread in InStyle gave us the inspiration to ditch the plummy Christmas colours, and think pink for the New Year!

Catch up with us both later this week for our review of this month's Harper's Bazaar and Glamour magazines!
